ADVISOR
Prof.Rajagopalan holds a B.E.(Mechanical Engg) from Madras University and M.Tech. and Ph.D in Industrial and Management Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He taught for over 30 years at IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras handling a variety of courses on industrial engineering, management, environment, and development.
At IIT Madras, he was also the Director of International Ocean Institute (IOI India) and coordinated several international ocean- and environment-related courses.
He also coordinated a rural development project in 40 dalit villages in coastal Tamil Nadu in South India. The project focuses on disadvantaged women and children and attempts to integrate livelihood issues, coastal ecology, appropriate eco-technologies, self help groups, micro credit, supplementary education for children, tree planting, spirulina production, organic bio-intensive gardening, promotion of herbal gardens and rainwater harvesting.
Prof.Rajagopalan has been conducting workshops on environment at Navadarshanam (near Bangalore), Auroville (near Pondicherry), Initiatives of Change, Panchgani (near Pune) and for school teachers in various cities across the country.
Prof.Rajagopalan has edited and written several books. Two of his children’s books won awards instituted by the Children’s Book Trust. In recent years, the Oxford University Press India has published ten textbooks written by him on Environmental Education for Classes 6 to 12, according to NCERT Syllabus (with teacher’s manuals for classes 9-12), and Environment studies: From Crisis to Cure (according to the UGC syllabus). The other books include, Basics of Environmental Studies for Gujarat Technological University and Environment and Ecology for UP Technical University. His new book on environment, meant for general reader, will be published shortly by the Oxford University Press in India.
